AES Jordan Solar B.V. and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan finalized Project Agreements including the Power Purchase Agreement, the Government Guarantee Agreement, the Land Lease Agreement and the Transmission Connection Agreement under which AES and Mitsui will develop, finance, construct, own and operate a new solar park with a capacity 51.9 MWp (DC). The documents have been shared with the Council of Ministers for final approval. The Project Agreements are expected to be executed on or before April 30, 2017.

State of art and most modern monocrystalline panels will be used for the solar park, making it the most advanced technology of solar PV project in Jordan. The park, located east of Amman, will produce one of the lowest-price renewable energy in the country.  AES Corporation (NYSE:AES), Mitsui & Co of Japan are already partners in The Amman East Power Plant (IPP1 project) and the AES Levant Power Plant (IPP4 project).

Once the solar project constructed, AES & Mitsui consortium will have an aggregate of 700 MW power generation installed capacity in Jordan, which will represent approximately 18% of the country’s installed capacity. It will help the implementation of the energy sector strategy of Jordan to reshape towards green technologies, and it is in aligned with Jordan Electricity Master Plan of 2020.

The Project is expected to create about 300 jobs during the construction phase. The park will be located approximately 2, 5 km. from AES Levant on about 500,000 m2 of land.
